Confident People Who Take Full Charge Of Their Life

Dear organised people, you confuse me. Teach me how to exude confidence in this fickle uncertain life. Please tell me what fuels your confidence. How are you so sure about what you want and how to achieve it? How dare you be so sure? Not relying on chance at all, but do what you want on your own terms; fully confident that you know what you’re doing. If you got two job offers, you will know the exact one you wanted; you will turn down a suitor because he didn’t tick all your boxes; you choose your friends, they do not choose you. Diligently sticking to your skin care routine and exercise. How nice.

Lazy Ones Steered By Chance

While I envy confident people in total control of their lives, I can’t help but be steered by the wind at sea; I live my life without any deep commitment to my plans but fully aware of my objectives. Relying on life to help me make decisions, while being pushed around by the wind. Making life decisions based on chance, albeit guided by my likes and pet peeves. For instance, having bad social skills and only being able to maintain childhood friendships because the bonds were stronger and less likely to break; applying for ten unmatching jobs and then calling it God’s will when I land one of them; eating unhealthily and then feeling down when I notice the effect on my skin. Although I relied heavily on chance, my life experiences were mostly guided by my likes, dislikes and habits.

Realising There Is Something Worse

While I envy the people who have total control of their lives, as against me who relied on chance, there are people I do not envy at all and my heart goes out to. They are people who have no control whatsoever and are being dealt horrible cards by the universe. Although I say I rely heavily on chance, I can afford to do that because I have something to fall back on if chance fails. Being Christian, I have God to guide me, while some don’t. I have a family to help me out if I fail at any point, some don’t. I have my degree and intelligence to help me succeed, some have neither. And life deals me beautiful cards most times. Whereas for some others, all through their life, they have only received sad and horrendous cards; they have had no chance at all at happiness or goodness.

People Dealt Unfortunate Cards

They were born to broken homes with zero morals and are exposed to horror right from when they’re less than one year. They grow amidst criminals and are exposed only to that life; raised in lowly neighbourhoods and having to choose between surviving and soothing their conscience. Difficult choice when so many odds are at stake.. It’s easy to do the right thing when you have a good support system/family, or wealth, or the right upbringing/morals. But when you lack any or all of these, you’ll be a martyr to make the correct choice.

So it’s easy to talk about all the right and proper things to do to lead a good life but until you have had to deal with certain horrors, it’s better to give people the benefit of doubt. Nobody is perfect.
